Drilling Success: NWDA Ignites Phase-2 of Kosi–Mechi Link

The National Water Development Agency (NWDA) has commenced drilling works at Branch Canal-1 under Phase-2 of the Kosi–Mechi Intra-State Link Project.

The project aims to strengthen irrigation and water management by linking the Kosi and Mechi rivers through an extensive canal network. Phase-2 involves key drilling activities for the construction of canals and associated infrastructure, which are critical for efficient water diversion and distribution.

Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance agricultural productivity and improve water availability across the region. The ongoing drilling works are crucial for ensuring timely execution of Phase-2 and advancing the overall project objectives.

Located in Bihar, the Kosi–Mechi Intra-State Link Project is a major irrigation initiative approved under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY-AIBP). It is designed to divert surplus water from the Kosi river to the Mahananda basin, providing irrigation to over 2.1 lakh hectares across the districts of Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, and Katihar.
